How does the speed test work?
The test works by measuring the ping time, downstream and upstream line speed between your computer and an automatically selected server located on the Amazon S3 network.
The testing server is selected based on a combination of your geographical location and your connections lowest ping time to a hosted server.
Your line speed is calculated by measuring the maximum downstream and upstream bandwidth of your internet connection.
What do the results mean?
Ping is a measurement of how long it takes your connection to send or receive a packet of information. A high ping time can effect online services such such as video streaming and online gaming.
Download speed is the maximum downstream bandwidth of your internet connection, this figure can be effected by many variables including your connection type and peak network loads in your area.
Upload speed is the maximum upstream bandwidth of your internet connection, this figure can be effected by many variables including your connection type and peak network loads in your area.
Please be aware that your line speed is not the same as your download speed, a downstream bandwidth of 1000kbps (1Mbps) would produce a maximum download speed of 100kbps on average.
